How to Keep Wall Decals in Place for a Longer Period of Time
Wall decals are designed to stay put for as long as you want them to but sometimes they may need a little help. Most have acrylic adhesives that allow them to stick firmly to almost any surface. Some surfaces, however, may cause the edges to lift or curl over time.
Here are a few tips you can use to help your wall decals stay in place for longer periods of time:
Wash the Area Well
Before applying your decals, wash the entire area with warm water and a mild soap. This will remove any dust, residue or debris that has collected on its surface. Even a small amount of dust can prevent wall decals from securing properly to the wall's surface. Before applying your decals, give the wall several minutes to dry.
Test the Decal Before You Apply It
If you aren't sure if your decal is going to adhere properly, test a small area first. Give it a few minutes to see if it will remain in place. If it does, you can go ahead and attach the entire decal to the wall. If not, you may need to clean the area a second time and allow it to dry. If it still won't stick, you may need to apply a thin coating of adhesive to secure it.
Apply a Light Coating of Wallpaper Paste or Craft Glue to the Decal
While most wall decals already have a thin acrylic adhesive already applied to the back, you may have to add to it. Lightly diluted craft glue or wallpaper paste works quite well and will hold your decal firmly in place for several months or until you plan on removing it. If the adhesive seal is strong enough, it can remain in place for a very long time without the edges coming undone.
Wall decals are a great way to show team spirit or to decorate your walls with your favorite cartoon or athletic character. With the right application methods, they can remain in place for a very long time without loosening or falling. Take the time to apply them correctly and you can enjoy them for as long as you like.
