How to Remove Sticky Residue of Floor Decals from Your Tile Flooring
Floor decals are a great way to support your home team. When the time comes to replace it, you can find yourself struggling to eliminate the adhesive residue that seems to have become part of your flooring. There are several ways to get rid of the floor decal and the sticky residue that goes along with it.

Scrape or Peel Off the Majority of the Decal
The side of a credit card or a sharp blade can be used to pry up the edges of the decal. This will allow you to gently peel the floor decals up, hopefully with most of the adhesive still attached to it. If you try to use a sharp blade, lay the blade as flat as possible so you don't mar the surface of your floor.

Soften the Adhesive
There will be times when peeling and scraping the decal off of the floor just won't do the trick. If you've gotten the decal off but some of the adhesive residues is still stuck to the floor, you can use the following to soften the adhesive.
- Olive oil – Olive oil is also a good choice for removing adhesives, but don't let it sit for too long
- Vinegar and warm water – Vinegar and warm water are great for softening hard to remove adhesives
- Hand sanitizer/alcohol – Hand sanitizer and alcohol dissolve the glue and make it easy to wipe away
- Peanut butter – The oils in the peanut butter will soften the glue but you have to work quickly, especially if you're working on a wood floor
You will have to be careful when you're working with flooring that can stain easily. If you are using any type of oil on a hardwood surface, make sure to wipe it off as soon as you get the decal off.
Wash/Wipe It Away
Once both the decal and the adhesive residue have been removed, wash the area with a warm, wet cloth with just a touch of soap on it. Wipe with a clean, wet cloth and allow the area to dry.
Following these few easy steps will help you take off the old decal and finish working on the floor. If you plan on replacing the old decal with a new one, make sure to thoroughly clean the area before you apply it. This will make sure it attaches securely without any imperfections.
